Im in the science section and at the begining of the session thought this was the right field for me. but with every passing day i seem to be convinced that my decion was made out of clear flustration. at the same time i have a growing urge to follow the dream of being a part of the media(sepecialy entertainment media), which i carry since the first grade. recently i revealed this desire to my parents and got a green`ish` signal. hence i did a bit of research and found out the that all the film & television institute demand a minimum bacelors degree. so i figured why dont i get a bacelors degree i a related field i.e mass-com. but i realised that one of the conditons for admission for a mass-com course & for any film & television institute is participation in extra curricular activities like play etc. which will be very hard to do if in a science student. also i am very much interested in taking a course in advertising. hence i inted to shift over to the commerce secion. but only at the end of this session just to be sure if this all is a temporary syndrome. so do you think its will be right for my carrer to follow my above chalked plan? i could have come to you personnaly a talked about other aspects of my `dream`. but unfortunately i am not fareing well in my subjects (could be due to lack of interest), and am afraid of appearind to run away from my present stituation. i would be garteful to you if it is me who reveals my real identity!! i am really looking forward to your reply!!

Dear, it’s absolutely all right if you do not wish to reveal your identity. Trust me, I’m here to help you anyway!! You are experiencing conflict regarding your stream of study. First of all, understand that it is not possible to change your study stream from Science to Commerce at the end of XIth. You will have to do class XII in the same stream as XIth. You need to think and answer a few questions to yourself here.. You opted for sciences under frustration, what were you frustrated with? Did you opt for it under parental or peer pressure? You are not fareing well in studies, what is the reason? Are you finding it difficult and so have not been able to develop an interest, or are you distracted with something else? You must introspect/think and determine why?? I can understand that you are drawn towards media and your parents support your decision too. Is this attraction based on factual knowledge or are you drawn towards glamour and money that one associates with media? Dear, it’s natural for us to avoid and run away from threatening situations and seek shelter in comfort. Does media appear easier than science? To excel in any field, you need to put in hard work and consistent effort. I suggest, due to lack of choice at this point, make best use of what you have. Focus on your subjects and do your best so that you can take a stream of your choice in college. For mass communication or journalism, one needs to be a graduate in any stream. Most mass communication programmes are at post-graduate level or you may do a diploma course after XII or after bachelor’s degree. During graduation, you can participate in extra curriculars and hone your talents in accordance with your interests. Right now, focus on what you have opted for. Knowledge acquired never goes waste, and in future make an informed choice and leave no room for regrets. All the best!! Attended By Bhavna Sharma

Welcome to DAV. Dear before I ans. your query, read the following: Have you gained weight and height in the last few years? Did you meet new people and make new friends in the past few years? If the ans. to these ques. is `yes`,understand that change is a way of life.Nothing remains stationary-weather good or bad.whenever there is a change/transition in our lives, all of us take sometime to settle into the new situation-that has new rules, new people & different expectations out of us.This whole process requires us to make changes in ourselves so that we adapt. Dear I can fully understand your concern.Try to make some effort to talk to other children-you can make good friends..maybe for life.Do not hesitate to take help from your teachers for study related problems. For further help, contact me during school hours. Good luck!!

“ I am facing a problem related to my studies. My academic performance is not at par with the time I put in. I am not able to see any reason for my poor performance. I feel that the time I put in to study is quite sufficient for me to perform well, however I do not score well. Now I am so disappointed that I have stopped trying.”

Dear , I can very well understand that your poor performance at school has affected your motivation, interest and your attitude towards studies. In fact , what you lack is the ‘skill to manage your time’. You will be able to learn well only when you are able to make good use of your time. No doubt, you are confronted with a number of tasks each day and all may seem to be equally important, you need to examine your priorities to be able to divide time equally for various tasks. In this case, you have to first see what is your ‘Prime Time’ i.e at which time of the day you can learn better. Thereafter, making a Time Chart, fixing ‘Breaks’ in between your study schedule and above all, ’Organization’ of all the material you need to study. If you plan your study schedule, your performance will equal your efforts and give you a sense of achievement and control. Good luck!!

“I am in class VIII. My father has been transferred to Gurgaon. So, I had to change my school. I have been coming to school for almost twenty days now but am unable to adjust to the new school environment.”

Dear , I can very well understand what you are going through. Transition / change in any phase of life creates challenges for us and requires us to change ourselves according to the changed environment. You can take the example of your father. His transfer to a new place requires him to adapt to a new environment. It is just the same with you. The short duration you’ve spent in the school may not have been a pleasant experience for you, but you should give yourself and your classmates some more time to get familiar with each other. It might require some extra efforts on your part. For eg. You might have to go out of your way to befriend your classmates. These efforts, will soon bear fruits and you will love your new school. So, All the Best!!
